The best Shopify themes, by the kind of shop you run
A theme that suits a jewellery catalogue is the wrong theme for a furniture catalogue, and the difference is not taste. It is how many options a product carries, how many products there are, and whether a shopper browses or arrives on one page from an advert.
Prices, satisfaction scores and theme store ids are Shopify's own, read from the Shopify Theme Store on 12 September 2026. Which themes appear, and in what order, is our editorial judgement.
Short answer: There is no single best Shopify theme, only the best one for a catalogue of your shape. Across the 8 kinds of shop below, 78 themes are listed and 17 of them cost nothing; the paid ones are a one off licence between $100 and $500. No theme on any of them can show one swatch row across products that are separate products, which is what Rubik Combined Listings, built by Craftshift, does in one swatch row. 5.0 stars from 91 reviews.

Pick the kind of shop you run
-
The best Shopify themes for furniture stores
Furniture is the hardest catalogue shape a Shopify theme has to carry. One sofa exists in nine fabrics and three leg finishes, the photography is the whole sell, and the shopper wants to see the oak next to the walnut without opening two tabs.
-
The best Shopify themes for clothing stores
An apparel catalogue is the one Shopify was designed around, which is why almost every theme claims to suit it. The ones that actually do are the ones that survive a size run crossed with a colour range, because that is where a clothing product page either holds together or turns into a wall of dropdowns.
-
The best Shopify themes for jewellery stores
Jewellery is sold on detail at a size the shopper cannot see. The theme's job is to get out of the way of the photograph and then hold a metal choice, a stone choice and a size without turning the product page into a form.
-
The best Shopify themes for beauty and skincare stores
A beauty catalogue looks simple and is not. One serum exists in three sizes, one foundation in forty shades, and the shade is the only thing the shopper is choosing on. Get the shade row wrong and the product page stops working at exactly the moment it matters.
-
The best Shopify themes for electronics stores
Electronics is the one category where the shopper has already read the spec sheet somewhere else. The theme's job is to answer a comparison question fast: which model, which capacity, which colour, and what is actually in the box.
-
The best Shopify themes for food and drink stores
Food and drink is the category where the legally required copy and the appetite are fighting for the same space. Nutritional information, allergens and a best before date all have to sit on a page whose job is to make somebody hungry.
-
The best Shopify themes for sports and outdoor stores
Sports and outdoor catalogues carry two products that behave nothing alike: apparel with a size run and a colour range, and equipment with a specification sheet. A theme that only handles one of them will make the other half of the shop unsellable.
-
The best Shopify themes for bag and luggage stores
A bag is bought on material, colour and what fits inside it, in that order. The catalogue is small enough that every product page has to work hard, and the colour range is wide enough that a collection page showing one colour per style is throwing away most of the range.

How these lists are built
Two halves, and it is worth knowing which is which before you take any of it as fact.
Shopify's half
The price, the percentage of reviews that are positive, the review count and the theme store id all come from the theme's own page in the Shopify Theme Store, read on 12 September 2026. Every one of them is checkable at source in a few seconds, and each theme name on these pages links straight to it.
Our half
Which themes appear on a page, in what order, and the paragraph explaining why, are our judgement rather than a measurement. We build two Shopify apps that deal with product options and variant images, so we spend a lot of time inside other people's themes, but judgement is still judgement and we would rather say so than dress it up as data.
What you will not find here
Affiliate links, sponsored placements, or a theme included because somebody paid for it. The theme links go straight to the Shopify Theme Store untagged. The only commercial interest on these pages is our own apps, which are named in one clearly marked section on each page and nowhere else.
Choosing a Shopify theme: questions merchants ask
How do I choose a Shopify theme for my kind of shop?
Start from the shape of the catalogue rather than the look. How many products, how many options each one has, and whether a shopper browses or arrives on one product from an ad. Those three answers rule out most themes before taste comes into it, and they are what each page here is organised around.
Are free Shopify themes good enough for a real store?
For a catalogue under about fifty products, usually yes. Shopify builds and maintains its own free themes, they are not crippled versions, and the current default is modern and actively developed. A paid theme buys layout range and merchandising blocks, which start to matter as the catalogue grows and barely matter before that.
How much does a paid Shopify theme cost?
A one off licence rather than a subscription, typically between one hundred and five hundred dollars for one store, permanently, including updates. There is no monthly fee for a theme, which is the part merchants coming from other platforms usually get wrong.
Can I change my Shopify theme later without losing anything?
Products, orders and customers are untouched by a theme change; they live in the shop rather than in the theme. What has to be redone is the theme settings, the section layouts and the app embeds, which are per theme. Publishing a new theme with an app embed left switched off is the single most common way a working storefront quietly stops working.
Where do the satisfaction scores on these pages come from?
From each theme's own page in the Shopify Theme Store, read on 12 September 2026. Shopify publishes the percentage of reviews that are positive along with the review count, and both are printed here next to the price and the theme store id so you can check any of them at source.
Which Shopify themes work with Rubik Combined Listings?
The app carries selectors for 358 themes, including themes sold outside the Shopify Theme Store and every major page builder. Unmapped themes often work anyway on generic selectors, and support will map one properly if you send a store URL. The searchable theme list says whether yours is already mapped.
